Flames in the Silence

ARTIVISM

¨Flames in The Silence¨ portrays the 141 Tibetan self-immolations that have occurred so far inside Tibet to protest the Chinese repressive colonial policies. It gives visibility to this painful issue, honors their sacrifice and becomes an unfading memorial amplifying their demands. It also facilitates a constructive discussion regarding this controversy to help understand it and ultimately stop from occurring again.

Pau's intent is not to make any judgment but to reflect a reality hidden from us by the Chinese censorship. So far this paintings have been shown not without controversy in Barcelona (Spain), in Dharamshala (India) and Ostrava (Czech R.) with a very good reception both by the western public and especially by the Tibetan refugees in exile, who express their heartfelt gratitude for this work. These paintings in a way keeps the issue from vanishing into oblivion.
